Limit your use of electronics other than a camera

You have chosen to do this hike and one of the best advantages is that you can truly be off the grid, or detached from everyone in the world that you are normally in touch with. Take this opportunity to not bring your iPod and listen to music but absorb the sites and sounds of the towns you pass through. The only thing you should use is digital camera because you will definitely admire the views you see.

Think of it this way, how often in your everyday life are you able to escape from all the lights and buzz of the world around us. Either we’re staring at light on our computer too long or answering every buzzing text on our phone. We are always connected and if we ever try to put one of them down people around us will just pressure us again to get back to our electronics.

So since you’re on a trip of a lifetime, no one for the most part urgently needs to reach you then do you need to reach them? No, because you’re doing the Camino and all that matters is that. Therefore don’t bring your phone or even your music player. Just enjoy the sounds around you. The chirp of the birds, rush of water and the buzz of town life along the Camino de Santiago.
