Not all albergues have eating equipment

You should bring a spoon and fork because not all places will have utensils for you to use. I once bought a can of tuna that I was looking forward to eating. The only problem was that there was no can opener in the Albergue. Fortunately enough I had my Swiss Army knife and used it as a makeshift can opener. The knife also came in handy when I lost both utensils I used the knife to poke at olives so I could eat them.

As well, a small bowl helps too because you never know what you can use a bowl for. Once my finger got really infected for some strange reason and the only way to cure it was so soak it in salt water for 5min several times per day. Thankfully I had my bowl to do this in because if I didn’t, there was absolutely no other cup or bowl around that I could do soak my finger in.

You never know when you’ll need these items until that moment comes. Its always better to come prepared with the eating equipment than to not. Because for all you know a place may have equipment but everyone else is using it. So to err on the side of caution, just bring your own essential eating equipment.

I saved plastic utensils from a store once because I was so frustrated for not having any a few days before. The only problem is that plastic utensils are so weak that they easily broke. Make sure to bring metal utensils next time!
