Wake up early

You’ll notice in your albergue that people tend to leave really early at around 6am. That means they are up and getting ready at around 5am to 5:30am. Instead of trying to get a little more sleep you should get up. This is important for two reasons. The first reason is that you want to arrive at the municipal albergue on time, beating the huge crowd to follow. And two, you want to minimize your time under the midday sun, which can drain the energy out of you quite easily.

There is really no point continuing to sleep while other people are getting ready to leave. While you may feel like you can sleep more I almost guarantee that you won’t be able to. The noise of everyone moving around will distract you so much that any sleep you thought you would get will just end up being time wasted. So to avoid this, not only should you get up early but you should sleep early. It is just a matter of shifting your normal sleeping habits a few hours earlier than what you are normally used to.

I think people generally wake up early and leave on time. Its never been that much of an issue for most hikers i don’t think. I did see someone wake up at 10am though.

I once decided to leave the hostel at 12pm. It was a hot day, long day and I arrived at the albergue at 8pm. I know never to do that again.

I do not agree with this idea, On my travels I hated to walk past hostels at 12 in the day to see people sitting outside finished for the day because they wanted the best beds. Take your time to hike for the entire day have a long lunch if the day is too hot. Personally I found the evening the best time to walk then I would arrive to a nice cool beer and food. The idea behind the Camino is not to sit around all day waiting to wake everybody up the next morning because you are restless from only hiking a few hours each day. I also recommend sleeping outdoor at some points which will allow you to hike well into the evening and enjoy the peace of the evening.
